PEDS HEALTH WATCH: Baby Shampoo with Formaldehyde?!

November 4, 2011

There was a news story yesterday about Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Shampoo containing formaldehyde. I agree, this sounds scary.

Johnson & Johnson released a statement today stating, that yes, their shampoo does contain formaldehyde, but only in very minute amounts. It is added as a preservative to prevent bacterial growth from occurring. Read their statement here: <http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/243326/20111104/johnson-says-baby-shampoo-safe.htm>

This has me wondering, with many other natural and organic, preservative-free products out there, why expose your baby to formaldehyde at all, which is a known carcinogen (cancer-causing agent), even if it is only a very small amount?

We would love to hear your thoughts, comments, and perspectives on this issue!

Would you change baby shampoo, in light of this new information about Johnson & Johnson’s ingredient list?
