More Insurance Woes

October 22, 2010

I hate to be a complainer, but the insurance changes that are currently happening are very unfavorable to naturopathic physicians.  Recently Aetna has informed us of decreased reimbursement rates beginning 12/1/10.  Aetna was already the 3rd worst payor for ND’s and now they are going to be the very worst.  Their reimbursement is at least HALf of many other companies and quite frankly, we are trying to decide if billing them for services is even worth it to us.  We will need to decide by 12/1 if we will switch to being out of network providers for Aetna, which will unfortunately affect many of our patinets.  We are also considering the same for Cigna and United and GreatWest, as their reimbursement is only marginally higher.

As patients and consumers, here is what you can do in order to maintain your insurance coverage of our services:

1. Write to Aetna (we already have) and ask them to reconsider their decrease in reimbursement rates to ND’s.

2.  Consider switching to another company that has better coverage and reimbursements for ND’s (i.e. Regence, Uniform, Lifewise, Premera).

We truly thank you for your support in this.  We want to continue to provide you with the very best care possible and also feel like we can support the continuation of our business.

Happy fall!
